The World of Veneers

Manufacturing high-quality veneers is an art form, and many Frischeis employees do their best to ensure that we can meet the requirements of even the most demanding customers.

The roundwood awaits further processing

It All Starts with the Tree

Already while they are still standing, we examine trees prior to cutting in order to ensure that they are suitable to be made into veneers. We employee buyers all over the world for this segment of our activities.

We have our veneers made by the most respected veneer plants in Europe, and, since we want to provide a personal guarantee for product quality, we oversee the entire production process ourselves.

After purchasing and delivery of the roundwood to the veneer plant, the trunks are kept wet using watering systems in order to ensure that they remain elastic until actual processing.

When a trunk goes into production, the bark is first roughly removed. Then, depending on quality, the optimal cutting thickness is determined based on a core slice.

The standard wood types can be offered in four thicknesses: Standard/0.9mm/1.4 mm/ 2.5 mm / and special thicknesses up to 4 mm.

Boiling, Slicing, and Drying

After the core slice, the trunk is once again clamped together, and steamed/boiled in steaming pits in order to guarantee optimal elasticity for slicing. The boiling time and temperature vary depending on wood type, diameter, and desired color. Hardwoods may spend up to eight days in the steaming pit.

The trunk, which has been separated and cleaned after steaming, is then sliced. Veneers are classified as either sliced or peeled veneers. In a sliced veneer, one veneer sheet after another is cut down on the flat side of the trunk; in the peeled veneer, the trunk is processed from the outside in.

The veneers are ten dried and bundled, and the bundles are pressed. They are then cut on four sides and pre-graded by our experts.

Evaluation for Grading

All products are then placed on one of our three grading lines, where they are divided into up to 60 grades.

For special requirements, we can ensure even coloring for larger batches with our color measuring device.

Discriminating customers will find a wide variety of products that have passed through many competent hands in order to create the best veneers.
